Taipei Medical University Showcases Green Healthcare Leadership at Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo
Event Dates|September 11 (Thu) – September 13 (Sat), 2025
Venue|Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 (Full Hall)

Taipei Medical University (TMU) and its affiliated hospitals—TMU Hospital, Wan Fang Hospital, and Shuang Ho Hospital—actively participated in the 2025 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo held at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 from September 11 to 13.
Under the theme “Green Circularity, Sustainable Future,” TMU presented its achievements in green campus and hospital initiatives, sustainable talent cultivation, and waste resource circulation, demonstrating the university’s strong commitment to social responsibility, healthcare excellence, and environmental sustainability.
TMU Earns 13 Sustainability Awards
TMU received 13 honors at the Expo, including 3 Gold, 4 Silver, and 6 Bronze Awards across the Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards (APSAA) and the Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards (TSAA).
These recognitions highlight TMU’s outstanding contributions toward multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—affirming TMU’s leadership in integrating healthcare innovation with sustainability principles.
TMU Hosts International Forum on Low-Carbon Healthcare
To promote dialogue on sustainable transformation in the healthcare sector, TMU organized the International Forum on Low-Carbon Healthcare – Scope 3 Challenges: Transforming Medical Waste Management on September 12.
The forum explored four major themes:
Circular Economy Value Chain in the Plastics Industry
Circular Economy and Green Design
Green Workforce Development and Clinical Practice
Waste Reduction in Healthcare Supply Chains
Representatives from the public, private, and academic sectors were invited to share insights on advancing low-carbon healthcare. The forum also featured a keynote address titled “Medical Waste Reform as a Climate and Health Imperative,” underscoring the urgency of integrating climate action into medical waste management.
Through cross-sector discussions, the forum highlighted how hospitals, industries, and policymakers can collaborate to accelerate net-zero transitions and sustainable healthcare development.
Building Medical Resilience as the Core of Sustainability
TMU emphasized that enhancing medical resilience is the most practical path to sustainability, and continues to integrate precision auditing, digital transformation, and green design to establish verifiable and scalable low-carbon healthcare models.
The university noted that the majority of environmental impacts in healthcare occur within external supply chains. Therefore, education, data integration, and cross-sector collaboration are key to achieving genuine sustainability transformation.
In alignment with this vision, TMU proposed three strategic directions for future development:
Establishing cross-hospital sustainability indicators
Implementing green procurement standards
Expanding green workforce training programs
These initiatives align with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), reinforcing TMU’s commitment to advancing resilient, low-carbon healthcare.
“TMU One Campus” Mini Forum Highlights Diverse Sustainable Practices
During the Expo, TMU hosted the “TMU One Campus Mini Classroom”, featuring faculty and hospital teams sharing best practices in sustainable healthcare.
Highlights included:
Waste management in cataract surgery
Parent–child reading initiatives to support child development in rural areas
Promoting oral health through holistic care
Green innovation and sustainable transformation in hospital operations
These sessions showcased TMU’s integration of education, clinical practice, and community engagement to promote health equity and sustainability.
From Innovation to Impact: TMU’s Commitment to Green Healthcare
Guided by the “One Campus” vision, TMU adopted an innovative low-carbon booth design at the Expo, achieving a 78% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional exhibition setups—demonstrating the university’s determination to embed sustainability in every detail.
From pioneering low-carbon exhibition practices to receiving 13 international sustainability awards, TMU has shown leadership in advancing green and resilient healthcare. Through continuous collaboration among academia, industry, government, and healthcare sectors, TMU is driving Taiwan’s medical system toward a sustainable transformation.
Looking ahead, TMU will continue to strengthen sustainability education, enhance supply chain transparency, and expand green talent cultivation. Through concrete action, TMU strives to address global climate challenges, fulfill its social responsibility, and build a healthy, sustainable, and inclusive society—setting a benchmark for sustainability in healthcare.
