To deepen sustainability awareness and encourage concrete action among faculty, staff, and students, Taipei Medical University (TMU) grandly launched its annual Sustainability Week in May 2026 under the theme “Living with Less, Sustaining More.” Through a series of exhibitions, lectures, interactive activities, and sustainability initiatives, the event aimed to transform sustainability from a concept into everyday practice and to foster a campus culture that embraces environmental responsibility and social engagement.
As global attention to climate change, resource conservation, and sustainable development continues to grow, universities play an increasingly important role in cultivating sustainability literacy and inspiring social action. TMU’s Sustainability Week was designed around the idea that meaningful change begins with everyday choices. By encouraging participants to reduce wasteful consumption and adopt more sustainable lifestyles, the University sought to demonstrate how small actions can generate significant collective impact.
The event highlighted themes including carbon reduction, circular economy, responsible consumption, environmental protection, social inclusion, and healthy lifestyles, showcasing TMU’s long-term commitment to sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Sustainability Week featured a wide range of activities that attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, students, and community members. Program highlights included:
These activities provided opportunities for participants to gain practical knowledge, exchange ideas, and reflect on how sustainability can be incorporated into both personal and professional life.

The theme “Living with Less, Sustaining More” emphasizes the importance of reducing unnecessary consumption while increasing positive contributions to society and the environment. The University encouraged participants to rethink habits related to resource use, energy consumption, transportation, and purchasing decisions, demonstrating that sustainability is not about sacrifice but about making wiser and more responsible choices.
Through interactive experiences and educational programs, participants were able to better understand the connections between individual behavior and broader environmental and social challenges. The event also highlighted the role of universities as catalysts for sustainable transformation and community engagement.
TMU has long integrated sustainability into institutional governance, education, research, healthcare services, and social responsibility initiatives. Sustainability Week serves as an important platform for showcasing these efforts while strengthening sustainability literacy across the campus community.
Looking ahead, TMU will continue to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative sustainability education, and practical action programs that support environmental stewardship, social well-being, and responsible governance. By fostering a culture of sustainability and empowering future healthcare professionals and leaders, the University aims to contribute to a healthier, more resilient, and more sustainable society.
