TMU Chairman Chen Rui-jie, TMU Hospital President Shi Jun-ming and 5 Other Alumni Receive the 2025 “Taiwan Medical Excellence Aw

Among the 20 recipients of the 2025 “Taiwan Medical Excellence Awards,” seven are alumni of Taipei Medical University (TMU) — including Chairman Chen Rui-jie, TMU Hospital President Shi Jun-ming, and five other distinguished physicians.

Recognition of Excellence in Clinical Care, Education, and Management

This honor not only recognizes the awardees’ outstanding performance in clinical practice, education, and hospital administration, but also highlights the long-standing dedication of the TMU community to medical care and social service.

Chairman Chen Rui-jie — currently TMU’s Chairman, a Distinguished Professor, and Executive Director of the National Resilience Medical Preparedness Program. With years of experience in hospital management and smart-healthcare development, he has been instrumental in leading TMU’s evolution toward a smart hospital ecosystem.

  • President Shi Jun-ming — with over 30 years of experience in cardiovascular medicine, Shi founded the catheterization laboratory at TMU, laying the foundation for the university’s cardiovascular care capabilities. He was the first in the TMU system qualified to perform independent transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI). Under his leadership, the heart-failure care team obtained national certification in 2019 and 2022, introduced home monitoring, remote rehabilitation, and patient-education programs. This integrated care model became a reference for some Asian heart-failure care standards, and in 2024 the team received the Gold Plus Award from the American Heart Association, marking it among the first in Asia to be honored.

  • In total, seven alumni — including physicians from TMU’s affiliated hospitals and other major hospitals in Taiwan — were among this year’s awardees.
