TMU Ranked No. 1 Among Medium-Sized Private Universities in the CommonWealth USR University Citizen Award, and Its President Tie

Taipei Medical University has once again received recognition for its institutional achievements, ranking No. 1 among medium-sized private universities in the 2026 CommonWealth USR University Citizen Award. In the previously announced peer evaluation of university presidents’ leadership performance, TMU’s president also tied for No. 8 nationwide. Both honors were recognized at the award ceremony on April 15, highlighting the University’s comprehensive strengths in institutional governance, teaching innovation, social engagement, and overall performance.

Impact Project: The Public Transformation of Medical Expertise

This year, the CommonWealth USR University Citizen Award introduced a new Impact Project category. TMU presented its project under the theme “The Public Transformation of Medical Expertise: TMU’s Civic University Practice Model for Building Social Impact.” The project demonstrated how the University integrates social responsibility and sustainable development into institutional governance, teaching and research, and field-based practice.

Institutional Positioning: The Social Mission of an Innovative University

TMU has long defined itself as “an innovative university grounded in medical education, applying biomedical and clinical expertise, and committed to social impact.” Guided by this mission, the University continues to respond to major public issues such as population aging, health inequity, environmental sustainability, and social resilience. Over time, it has shifted from isolated, project-based efforts toward a more institutionalized approach to creating social impact, making university social responsibility a core pillar of its development strategy

One Campus: An Integrated Framework Driving Systematic Practice

In recent years, TMU has adopted One Campus as its integrative framework, linking resources across the University and its affiliated institutions to advance collaboration in teaching, research, healthcare, service, international engagement, and industry-academia partnerships. Through an operational logic of problem orientation, interdisciplinary collaboration, field-based implementation, and institutional diffusion, TMU continues to transform medical expertise into concrete actions that respond to social needs and expand the University’s positive social impact.

Looking Ahead: Continuing Toward a Sustainable University

This award not only affirms the joint efforts of TMU’s faculty, staff, students, and the broader university-hospital system, but also reflects strong recognition of the University’s long-term commitment to teaching innovation, health promotion, social practice, and sustainable governance. Moving forward, TMU will continue to deepen demand-driven teaching, research, and service, while leveraging the clinical, academic, and innovative strengths of its university-hospital system to promote health sustainability, educational innovation, and social well-being, steadily advancing toward a more internationally competitive and socially responsible sustainable university.
