Since its founding in 1960, the Taipei Medical University (TMU) College of Pharmacy has grown over more than six decades into a cradle of leadership talent for Taiwan's biomedical and pharmaceutical sectors. On July 3, 2026, TMU and Commonwealth Publishing jointly held a launch event on the TMU campus for two new books, "Breaking Through: A Generation of Pharmacy Pioneers" and "Advancing Forward: Pharmacy Across Generations." Together, the two volumes document the career journeys of 33 distinguished alumni across pharmaceutical manufacturing, new drug development, entrepreneurship, and industry service — a significant asset for TMU's pharmacy community and an important milestone for Taiwan's future pharmaceutical field.

The event brought together 17 alumni leaders from the biomedical sector, including 7 chairpersons and general managers of publicly listed biotech companies: Chairperson Chan Ching-Liu of TaiwanJ Pharmaceuticals, CEO Chen Ya-Chi of Taiwan Liposome Company, General Manager Chiang Tsung-Ming of Standard Foods, General Manager Hsu Wen-Chi of United BioPharma, Vice Chairperson Wang Yu-Pei of Nang Kuang Pharmaceutical, Honorary Chairman Lee Fang-Chuan of Yungshin Group, and General Manager Chien Tu-Hsien of TAI-GEN Biotechnology, among others. This group, representing much of Taiwan's biotech industry, rarely gathers across generations, making the occasion a special moment to celebrate one another's achievements together.

Director-General Chiang Chih-Kang of the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, attended the event and praised TMU pharmacy alumni for breaking through conventional boundaries to pioneer new ground across industries, expressing hope that they will continue to be a key force driving Taiwan's pharmaceutical sector onto the global stage and strengthening its international competitiveness. TMU leadership also joined the event, including Board Chairman Chen Ruey-Jye, Academician Chang Wen-Chang of Academia Sinica, TMU President Mai-Szu Wu, Vice President Tsai Pei-Shan, and Dean Chang Wei-Chiao of the College of Pharmacy. In one of the event's most touching moments, a dedicated alumni appreciation ceremony was held, with the university presenting commemorative caps to attending alumni, many of whom put them on immediately for group photos.

The stories featured in the two books trace back 66 years to the university's humble beginnings on Wuxing Street, following alumni careers that now span pharmaceutical company operations, new drug development, multinational enterprises, and community care. Whether leading publicly listed pharmaceutical companies or founding distribution networks in international markets, all the featured alumni credit the solid professional foundation built at the TMU College of Pharmacy, along with the spirit of mutual support among fellow alumni. The personal journeys of the 33 distinguished alumni featured in the books together form a microcosm of the development of Taiwan's biotech and pharmaceutical industry. The spirit of TMU's pharmacy alumni continues to guide Taiwan's biotech and pharmaceutical sector toward new international milestones, driven by the wisdom to break through barriers and the courage to advance forward.
